Ciao, bella! =) I'm Scarlett, I'm a 22-year old English Writing Major and I love Harry Potter porn fanfiction. Add me if you think that's cool! (This is a friends-only journal, but fic is not f-locked.)

I am keeping a collection of quotes I have come across in everyday life or from fics or from ANYWHERE, that I do not want to lose, and as facebook only allows me 3,000 words in my quotes section, that simply will not do.

I ask this: if there should be an assassination, I would hope that five, ten, one hundred, a thousand would rise. I would like to see every gay lawyer, every gay architect come out. If a bullet should enter my brain, let that bullet destroy every closet door, and that's all. I ask for the movement to continue. Because it's not about personal gain, not about ego, not about power. It's about the "us's" out there. Not only gays, but the Blacks, the Asians, the disabled, the seniors, the us's. Without hope, the us's give up. I know you cannot live on hope alone, but without it, life is not worth living. So you, and you, and you... you gotta give em' hope. You gotta give em' hope.
~Harvey Milk

Believe that with your feelings and your work you are taking part in the greatest; the more strongly you cultivate this belief, the more will reality and the world go forth from it.
~Rainer Maria Rilke

I want to be with those who know secret things or else alone.
~Rainer Maria Rilke

Love consists in this, that two solitudes protect and touch and greet each other.
~Rainer Maria Rilke

Once the realization is accepted that even between the closest human beings infinite distances continue, a wonderful living side by side can grow, if they succeed in loving the distance between them which makes it possible for each to see the other whole against the sky.
~Rainer Maria Rilke

Surely all art is the result of one's having been in danger, of having gone through an experience all the way to the end, where no one can go any further.
~Rainer Maria Rilke

I feel it now...there's a power in me to grasp and give shape to my world. I know that nothing has ever been real without my beholding it.
~Rainer Maria Rilke

If you tremble indignation at every injustice then you are a comrade of mine.
~Ernesto Che Guevara

What concerns me is not the way things are, but rather the way people think things are.

The only true wisdom is in knowing you know nothing.

It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it.

I'm not interested in preserving the status quo; I want to overthrow it.
~Niccolo Machiavelli

When you realize how perfect everything is you will tilt your head back and laugh at the sky.

All men are created equal. No matter how hard they try, they can never erase those words. That is what America is about.
~Harvey Milk

My soul, do not seek eternal life, but exhaust the realm of the possible.

I am learning to see. I don't know why it is, but everything penetrates more deeply into me and does not stop at the place where until now it always used to finish. I have an inner self of which I was ignorant. Everything goes thither now, what happens there I do not know.
~Rainer Maria Rilke

I live not in dreams but in contemplation of a reality that is perhaps the future.
~Rainer Maria Rilke

Freedom and justice cannot be parceled out in pieces to suit political convenience. I don't believe you can stand for freedom for one group of people and deny it to others.
~Coretta Scott King

The heart has its reasons of which reason knows nothing.
~Blaise Pascal

Then enjoy that. Don’t stilt yourself. Enjoy how it feels to be in love. The rest will come, or it won’t, but this is yours. Him, me, them… None of us can touch that. What we think doesn’t matter. It’s your love. Your esteem. You control it. It doesn’t depend upon anyone else, and you can give it to whomever you want. You’ve chosen him, and that choice makes you happy. Hold on to that.
~from The Business of Saving Souls by [ profile] rurounihime

The unreal is more powerful than the real, because nothing is as perfect as you can imagine it. Because it is only intangible ideas, concepts, beliefs, and fantasies that last. Stone crumbles. Wood rots. People? Well, they die. But things as fragile as a thought, a dream, a legend... they can go on and on.
~Chuck Palahniuk

Presume not that I am the thing I was.

And then I felt sad, because I realized that once people are broken in certain ways, they can't ever be fixed, and this is something nobody ever tells you when you are young, and it never fails to surprise you as you grow older, as you see the people in your life break, one by one, you wonder when your turn is going to be, or if it's already happened...

Is he willing to prevent evil, but not able? then he is impotent. Is he able, but not willing? then he is malevolent. Is he both able and willing? whence then is evil?
~David Hume (on god)

For my part I know nothing with any certainty, but the sight of the stars makes me dream.
~Vincent Van Gogh

After all, I cannot help vanishing and disappearing and dissolving. It is my foremost trait.
~Stephen Crane

Women do not always have to write about women, or gay men about gay men. Indeed, something good and new might happen if they did not.
~Kathryn Hughes

Would it make a difference if I told you that no one could possibly ever love anyone as much as I love you?
~from The Butterfly Effect

So what is the best ending in all of literature? Don't say Ulysses. Everyone says Ulysses.
That's easy. Sentimental Eduacation, by Flaubert.
And what happens?
Nothing, really. Just two old friends sitting around remembering the best thing that never happened to them.
How do you remember something that never happened?
Fondly. You see, Flaubert believed that anticipation was the purest form of pleasure... and the most reliable. And that while the things that actually happen to you would invariably disappoint, the things that never happened to you would never dim. Never fade. They would always be engraved in your heart with a sort of sweet sadness.
~from Dawson's Creek

What I love, I hang on to. With both hands, and my teeth, if I can get a good grip.
Even if it doesn't love you?
Even then. Especially then. Anybody can love something that loves you back. The other way takes a certain amount of effort.
~Peter S. Beagle (A Fine and Private Place)

I feel so forsaken and lonely on this earth, like a left-over from better times, blown into the present which I hate, and where I shall always feel a stranger. It is surely understandable that I am sometimes attacked by an absolute fever of anger and hatred, and that I turn away in disgust from the world around me which has so little to offer me. Perhaps one day I shall be at peace with this earth, when all the ideals whose sacred flames I cherish are destroyed. But I do not ever wish this. I wish to remain an eternal enigma, to myself and to others.
~Idealistic King of Somewhere

I've dreamt in my life dreams that have stayed with me ever after, and changed my ideas; they've gone through and through me, like wine through water, and altered the colour of my mind.
~Charlotte Bronte

Of course this is happening inside your head... but why on earth should that mean that it is not real?
~Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore

"The stars will sing of it,"
was the reply, in a whisper.
"We're immortal, you and I..."
~Beautiful World, by Cinnamon ([ profile] starflowers)

When I don't love you, I'll let you know.
~from Love Walked In

Keep Moving Forward...
~Walt Disney, Meet the Robinsons

I've always had a weakness for lost causes – once they’re really lost.
~Rhett Butler, Gone With the Wind

The notion that a radical is one who hates his country is naive and usually idiotic. He is, more likely, one who likes his country more than the rest of us, and is thus more disturbed than the rest of us when he sees it debauched. He is not a bad citizen turning to crime; he is a good citizen driven to despair.

Understand, I'll slip quietly
away from the noisy crowd
when I see the pale
stars rising, blooming over the oaks.
I'll pursue solitary pathways
through the pale twilit meadows,
with only this one dream:
you come, too.

You will never know how much of an impact you have made on the people in your life. Just look inside yourself, and think about how much you keep hidden, how many secret memories you cherish, how much one particular moment in time with another person has meant to you, and realize that you have created moments like that within other people. Countless others. Others you might never have given the time of day. It has never been clearer to me how precious we all are, and how much I appreciate all of you in my life. I love you all. Thank you for everything. And if you're reading this, that means you know me in some way, and so this message is for you.

If one cannot enjoy reading a book over and over again, there is no use in reading it at all.
~Oscar Wilde

In a very real sense, people who have read good literature have lived more than people who cannot or will not read.
~S. I. Hayakawa

I am a part of everything that I have read.
~John Kieran

To acquire the habit of reading is to construct for yourself a refuge from almost all of the miseries of life.
~W. Somerset Maugham

A great book should leave you with many experiences, and slightly exhausted. You should live several lives while reading it.
~W. Styron

I dream away my life in others' speculations. I love to lose myself in other men's minds. When I am not walking I am reading; I cannot sit and think. Books think for me.
~C. Lamb

To feel most beautifully alive means to be reading something beautiful, ready always to apprehend in the flow of language the sudden flash of poetry.
~G. Bachelard

The more you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go.
~Dr. Seuss

It's nothing I'll forget when the moon gets tired
You are stuck to me everyday
Believe in what I am because it's all I have today
And tomorrow who knows where we'll be
From here I can hardly see a thing
But I will follow anyone who brings me to you
For now,
for on and on and on ........ . . . . . . . . . . .
~Alkaline Trio

Man: She is in love.
Nino: I don't even know her!
Man: Oh, you know her.
Nino: Since when?
Man: Since always.
Man: In your dreams.
~from Amélie

You mean she would rather imagine herself relating to an absent person than build relationships with those around her?
~from Amélie

If Amélie chooses to live in a dream-world and remain an introverted young woman, she has every right to mess up her life!
~from Amélie

Any normal girl would call the number, meet him, return the album and see if her dream is viable. It's called a reality check. The last thing Amélie wants.
~from Amélie

If I find in myself a desire which no experience in this world can satisfy, the most probable explanation is that I was made for another world.
~C.S. Lewis

and it called to mind how I’d always felt like I’m
just living in this life for a while
and how you get so far beneath yourself
it’s hard to see the journey with a smile
and it called to mind how I’d always felt like I’m
the last one to hear of things
I’m in the back of the room watching all of you
I go unnoticed but I notice everything
~Beth Waters

the world is not your oyster
it’s a coffee shop
and you’re sitting there
trying not to stare
you’re pretending to read your book
but really you’re just watching all the people
it’s a spectacle and you’re there
to catch the air
~Beth Waters

If one is lucky, a solitary fantasy can totally transform one million realities.
~Maya Angelou

What you do
No one can decide it's up to you
and who you are is what you choose
These times when the world falls apart
Make us who we are

The easy confidence with which I know another man's religion is folly teaches me to suspect that my own is also. I would not interfere with any one's religion, either to strengthen it or to weaken it. I am not able to believe one's religion can affect his hereafter one way or the other, no matter what that religion may be. But it may easily be a great comfort to him in this life--hence it is a valuable possession to him.
~Mark Twain

So much blood has been shed by the Church because of an omission from the Gospel: "Ye shall be indifferent as to what your neighbor's religion is." Not merely tolerant of it, but indifferent to it. Divinity is claimed for many religions; but no religion is great enough or divine enough to add that new law to its code.
~Mark Twain

I am quite sure now that often, very often, in matters concerning religion and politics a man's reasoning powers are not above the monkey's.
~Mark Twain

Clothes make the man. Naked people have little or no influence on society.
~Mark Twain

Don't part with your illusions. When they are gone you may still exist but you have ceased to live.
~Mark Twain

The first steps you take on any journey won't get you where you want to go. But without those first steps and the many more that follow, you would always be standing right where you are, looking towards the future and wondering what it would really be like to see your world the way you always dreamed it could be.

I must create a system or be enslaved by another mans; I will not reason and compare: my business is to create.
~William Blake

If the doors of perception were cleansed everything would appear to man as it is, infinite.
~William Blake

Imagination is the real and eternal world of which this vegetable universe is but a faint shadow.
~William Blake

To generalize is to be an idiot.
~William Blake

What is now proved was once only imagined.
~William Blake
